At Schilderles Amsterdam, everyone is welcome, from the absolute beginner to the experienced student. In our courses, you receive personal instruction from our teachers, with whom you can follow a lesson program or design on your own path. All the assignments can be viewed via videos. We use a flexible roster so you can plan your lessons around your schedule. This way, everyone can come paint with us.
The
studio
Schilderles Amsterdam has been around for more than ten years. You can find us on the Stadionplein, surrounded by Amsterdam School architecture. Behind the sliding door at number 67, you’ll find our spacious yet cozy studio. Every day, students come here to paint. The smell of oil paint and fresh coffee fills the space, where you can paint in peace and quiet.

The
instructors
Julius Stibbe
Julius works as a visual artist and teacher. He studied Fine Arts at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. His paintings are often abstract and based on his daily feelings and experiences. Julius’ work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad.
Lara Bult
Lara studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, specializing in painting. To her, painting means absolute freedom, not only in what you create, but also in how you feel while you’re painting. As an instructor, Lara thinks that in addition to teaching the techniques, it’s important include the joy of painting.
Romy Zwart
Romy Zwart is a visual artist and works as an instructor and educator. She sees art as a way to better understand yourself and the world around you. She conducts this search for understanding in her artistic practice by experimenting with techniques and materials.
Bas Giesen
Bas graduated from the Art Academy in Maastricht and is also a costume designer in addition to being a visual artist. He is wonderful at guiding students and patiently helps you improve your work.
Anita Rademakers
Anita grew up between oil paint, canvases, and easels. She’s fascinated by how you can evoke a whole world with paint. As an educator, Anita has done projects for the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, among others, and is a passionate teacher who enjoys helping you discover and develop your talents.
Martijn den Ouden
Martijn graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy with a degree in Image and Language. In addition to being a visual artist and owner of Schilderles Amsterdam, he is also a writer. From the vantage point of several disciplines, Martijn expertly guides you through your creative process.
Floor de Bruin
Floor is studying at the Amsterdam University of the Arts to become a fine art teacher. In her paintings, she plays with the point at which stillness and tension intersect. Along with the students at Schilderles Amsterdam, she is on a journey of discovery exploring the various possibilities of oil paint.
Dion Rosina
Dion graduated from the Amsterdam University for the Arts. He has a great passion for oil paint and often tries out new techniques to find a wider range of expression in his work. His work has been exhibited at the Rembrandt House in Amsterdam, among other places.
Wolf Hekkema
Wolf studies art history at the University of Amsterdam. In 2020, he participated in the television program and painting competition Project Rembrandt, which he won. Wolf develops painting techniques and delves into the psychological aspects of painting. His enthusiasm for painting is contagious.
About
us
Since 2018, Schilderles Amsterdam has been led by Martijn den Ouden and Janne Colenbrander.
Martijn graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and works as a visual artist, poet, and teacher.
His visual work has been exhibited by WG Kunst and Saatchi, among others. He has produced four poetry collections published by Querido, where he met Janne.
After a career in the literary world, Janne began working as a freelance communication consultant. She worked for organizations like The School of Life and Oude Kerk Amsterdam. At Schilderles Amsterdam, Janne and Martijn aim to create a space in which everyone is welcome, where the student is central, and where you can experience the joy of painting.
